Penetration of China UnionPay’s bank cards throughout Russia is expected to exceed 80% this year

Almaty. August 17. Silkroadnews – Penetration of China UnionPay’s cards in Russia will exceed 80% this year, “People’s Daily” reported.
China’s national payment system China UnionPay International recently announced the receipt of China UnionPay bank cards for payment for 120 thousand POS-terminals in Russia. Moreover, QuickPass mobile payment service will be available in the most stores, the publication reads.
This move is one of the steps within UnionPay’s extension of cooperation with the Russian “ВТБ” Bank.
Earlier all “ВТБ” ATMs started to accept China UnionPay cards. Now four biggest banks of Russia use UnionPay cards. By the end of the year the penetration of UnionPay cards in Russia is expected to exceed 80%, the report says.
It is also informed that tickets on the official websites of “Russia” and “Siberian Airlines” air companies can be paid using UnionPay cards. The number of Russian consumers using the cards of the Chinese national payment system is reported growing. As of today, more than 900,000 UnionPay bank cards have been issued by nine Russian banks and are being actively used in almost 60 countries and regions of the world.
