Almaty. August 25. Silkroadnews – In Iran people with ugly appearance are banned to work as teachers, the New Zealand news portal “News Hub” reported.
“Iran’s education department has sparked outrage online after banning “ugly” teachers. A list by the Ministry of Education details hundreds of illnesses and conditions that prevent people from entering the teaching field. Most controversial are those relating to teachers’ appearances”, report reads.
It is explained that people with severe acne or eczema, traces of burns, unsightly moles on the face or less than 20 teeth, women with facial hair are banned to work as teachers. Other rules are related to conditions that are unnoticeable, such as female infertility, cancer, stones in the bladder, or color blindness.
Information on the list became viral in social networks after it was published by the semi-official information agency FARS that noted that the future teachers will spend more time on medical examinations than on training. Users of social networks have sharply criticized the new ban, calling it discriminatory and violating human rights.
According to the publication, as a result of such criticism the presidential adviser promised that the list of bans will be carefully studied, and the press secretary of the Ministry of Education said the bans related on women will be removed and the rest of the list will be reviewed.
