Beijing. May 31. Silkroadnews - Most of these 140 generals are on reserve posts of the ministry and will resign according to the presidential decree backed by the law and plan for the Afghan police reforms, the Afghan Telegraph Agency (AfTAG) reports.
The resignation comes in about a week after the Defense Ministry announced that it has retired another 61 army generals, summing up the total of retired top-ranked military officers to over 220, Daily Outlook Afghanistan wrote.
While expressing concern on this issue, some political scientists stated that the plan for renovation of the power structures and retirement of their employees should be based on clear criteria, and the ethnic and political priorities of individuals in this process may be harmful.
In November last year, a plan to retire about 2000 high-ranking officers was completed, providing for retirement of 70% of the generals.
Under the police internal law, the generals of the Ministry of Internal Affairs should retire at the age of 62, lieutenant generals at the age of 60, major generals at 58, brigadiers at 56, and colonels - at age of 54.
