Almaty. June 14. Silkroadnews – President Almazbek Atambayev instructed the general prosecutor’s office to resume the investigation on the legality of Kumtor agreements dated 2003-2004 and 2009 due to new circumstances revealed, KyrTAG reports.

On June 14 president Atambaev met the country’s prosecutor general Indira Dzholdubaeva.

As the new circumstances have been discovered on Kumtor project, Kyrgyz President instructed the office of the prosecutor general to resume investigation on legality of the agreements made in 2003-2004 and 2009 within the framework of criminal cases on corruption and other disorders related to the gold deposit development. In particular, taking into account the new circumstances, the restructuring of the Kumtor project in 2003-2004 comes in a new perspective. That very time Kyrgyzstan’s share in Centerra Gold company has been formed and people began to think it’s got lowered artificially.

The president emphasized it is important not only to carry out an objective investigation, but to inform the community timely on the measures taken, since the criminal case has become the high profile one.

“People need to know why Kumtor which was to become the pride of Kyrgyzstan and the largest investment project, is now, in fact, perceived as “the biggest scam”, “corruption honeypot of two family- clan regimes” and a betrayal of Kyrgyzstan’s national interests,” A. Atambayev said.
