Almaty. November 13. Silkroadnews - The President of Panama will arrive in China on an official visit on November 17, Eyewitness News reported.
“Panama’s President Juan Carlos Varela will travel to China to meet with his counterpart Xi Jinping on Friday, the first official visit by a Panamanian leader to the Asian country coming five months after the nations established diplomatic relations,” the report said.
As noted in the statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Panama, the bilateral meeting will promote to “establish a new economic, trade, tourist and diplomatic outlook for the country, leading to more than a dozen agreements to be signed” between the countries.
In June, Panama strengthened its commercial ties with China and established full diplomatic relations with the second most important customer of its key shipping canal, thus ensuring Beijing a major victory, as it broke formal relations with Taiwan.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the agreements will form the basis for attracting investment and Chinese innovations to Panama, help to increase exports of Panamanian goods, develop tourism and use the Panama Canal.
Varela will open the first embassy of Panama in China.
