Almaty. March 28. Silkroadnews – Non-institutional opposition in Kyrgyzstan is to discuss the issues related to prevention of civil expansion of China to the Republic, as the chairman of “Movement to Save Kyrgyzstan”,  Mukar Chopolbayev reports.
“The round table is to be held on the 31st of March. This will a big event with representatives of all Kyrgyz regions invited to attend. We are hoping that it will end up being a peaceful event and authorities will respond to all of our questions”, Mister Cholponbayev said at the Press Conference in Almaty.
“It is necessary to stop civil expansion of China. 300 000 have left to Kyrgyzstan. If this is to continue, there will be no Kyrgyzstan left. It will become yet another province of China. However, that doesn’t mean that we don’t need Chinese investment”, Cholponbayev noticed.
He also said that the issue of ban on foreign ownership of natural resource deposits is to be raised along other issues.
“Kumtor” (gold mine owned by Canadians) needs to be Kyrgyz. If we are to further develop this gold mine deposit, which now contains 740 tonnes of gold, it needs to belong to Kyrgyzstan. It is not economically wise for us to let foreigners develop our other natural resource deposits. This includes the deposit that contains 80 tonnes of gold and that Kazakhstan is looking to develop. We have our own professional human resources. Kyrgyzstan is capable of extracting its own gold” Mister Cholponbayev added.
The meeting is also set to give its two pennies on the issue of Kyrgyzstan prospective Customs Union membership.
“Kyrgyzstan is not ready yet to become a Customs Union member. We need to get our legislation in order first. People’s incomes need to be at parity with other members too. Otherwise, Kyrgyzstan would be eaten alive”, he said.
Mister Cholponbayev explained that the Press Conference took place in Almaty instead of Bishkek due to “economic, political, social and spiritual situation in the country”.
