Prime Minister of India will take part in the opening of Salma dam in Afghanistan

Almaty. June 3. Silkroadnews – On Saturday Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Afghan President Ashraf Ghani will inaugurate the Afghan-India friendship dam – Salma, Afghan news agency (AfTAG) reports.

“The completion of the dam project represents culmination of years of hard work by about 1,500 Indian and Afghan engineers and other professionals in very difficult conditions. It also highlights India’s continued commitment to Afghanistan’s reconstruction and development,” External Affairs Ministry Spokesman Vikas Swarup said at the weekly briefing.

According to him, the meeting between Modi and Ghani “will also provide an opportunity to discuss the current situation in Afghanistan and how the two countries can cooperate further for promoting peace and stability in that country”.

Afghanistan is a first country N. Modi visits on his way to the US with the working visit scheduled for June 7-8. His five-nation trip will also cover Qatar, Switzerland and Mexico.
“Salma” is an irrigation dam of hydroelectric power station located on the Hari river in Chishti Sharif in Herat province.
