Beijing. April 9. Silkroadnews - Norway’s Prime Minister Erna Solberg criticized U.S. President Donald Trump for the trade war he started launched against several countries, including China and Norway, China Daily Online reported.
She warned that the historical precedent set by trade wars has been one of regression, wars, and conflict, the publication reads.
“Attacks on free trade in recent weeks are therefore cause for concern. It is a great paradox when countries like the U.S. come across as the biggest threat to free trade,” the agency quoted her saying.
Solberg also said noted that “China is acting like one of the most prominent defenders [of trade]. A global trade war and increasing protectionism are the last things the world needs now.”
The Prime Minister said she was ready to fight against the trend towards protectionism and that, under her leadership, Norway would pursue a policy of free and fair trade.
To remind, in March, the U.S. decided to introduce a 25% tariff on steel imports and a 10% tariff on aluminum. The tariffs have been applied on imports from countries including China and Norway.
