Almaty. December 27. Silkroadnews – Project on Mi-17 helicopters maintenance in Afghanistan previously carried out by Russia and NATO remains frozen, AfTAG writes.

“According to different estimates, there are more than a hundred of helicopters in various structures of Afghanistan”, Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to NATO Alexander Grushko said.

“And according to the military forces representatives who have been through the NATO operation, served in the International Security Assistance Force for Afghanistan and gave their analysis of the NATO operation “Resolute support”, without a reliable air support Afghanistan’s armed forces will not be able to control the territory. And a core of this air support are the Russian helicopters”, he added.

He also said, the technical staff and a logistics system based on the Russian-certified replacement parts have been prepared, though "it all remains frozen”.
