Almaty. October 26. Silkroadnews – The purpose of the visit of the US Secretary of State to the Middle East is forming an Arab Anti-Iranian coalition, the Iranian Telegraph Agency (IrTAG) reports with reference to the Islamic Republic News Agency.
“The US Secretary of State made a trip to the Middle East; it is not a secret to anyone that the goal of the visit was but to form an Arab union against Iran. Rex Tillerson hopes to create a coalition that his predecessors failed to form in the past few decades,” the report said.
It is noted that in recent decades, the most noticeable U.S. policy in the Middle East was to count on Saudi Arabia’s financial strength and political leverage in the Arab countries. In this regard, the first destination for Tillerson’s trip was Saudi Arabia, as was the case with U.S. President Donald Trump a few months ago.
Tillerson attended a meeting of the Coordination Committee of Saudi Arabia and Iraq in Riyadh. Referring to the victory over the IS in Iraq, he called for the dissolution of the People’s Mobilization Forces and invited them to go home. Although the approach to alienate Iraq from Iran is not a new, it appears that Iran’s full support for Iraq was useful and led to the defeat of the IS and its retreat in the region, which became a real headache for the United States.
Another factor that drove Tillerson to travel to the region was the ongoing crisis in Qatar, which caused a deep split between the Arab states and prompted Qatar to cooperate with Iran.
According to the publication, Tillerson tried to exaggerate the fabricated threat of Iran to pave the way for negotiations between Saudi Arabia and Qatar.
It is noted that Tillerson's concerns are not restricted to the region, because the reaction of the Europeans to Trump’s remarks last week about a joint comprehensive action plan and Iran’s compliance with it put the US at the threat of strategic isolation.
As the publication emphasizes, the US has never been in such voluntary isolation and has not been subjected to such criticism since the beginning of the 20th century, so it is natural for the United States to try to strengthen ties and form coalitions with the countries supporting their policies.
“The analogy between the US and the Persian Gulf Arab states is the fact that both lack public acceptance. The Persian Gulf states, with the Saudis on top, are being severely criticized due to their belligerence and violation of human rights in Yemen and also sanctioning Qatar,” the report says.
