RATS SCO and Japan agreed to cooperate in combating terrorism

Almaty. May 4. Silkroadnews – The SCO Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure (RATS SCO) and Japanese government consider ways of interaction and cooperation in the fight against terrorism, KyrTAG reports.
Director of the Executive Committee of the RATS SCO Eugene Sysoev met with advisor of the Japanese Embassy in Uzbekistan Yoshitaka Naraoku.

“The parties discussed the possibility of cooperation between the RATS SCO and competent authorities of non-SCO states on combatting terrorism and direction of such cooperation,” the statement said.
During the meeting the sides exchanged views on the situation prevailing in the regions of the most intensive terrorists’ activities and expressed the opinion that it threatens not only the states of Central Asia and Europe, but the third countries as well.

It is noted the parties are especially concerned about situation in Afghanistan under conditions of withdrawal of international Security Assistance Force and continuing political crisis.

The SCO includes Russia, China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. Belarus, Mongolia, India, Iran, Pakistan and Afghanistan have observer status. In July 2015 India and Pakistan applied for full membership in the organization. RATS headquarter is in Tashkent.

At the summit in Ufa the SCO chairmanship was transferred from Russia to Uzbekistan. This year the SCO summit will be held in Tashkent on June 23-24.
