Russia and China shall expand scientific and technological cooperation in the energy sector – Putin

Almaty. June 23. Silkroadnews – China strengthens its presence in the Russian energy market, Russian President Vladimir Putin said in his interview to Cai Mingzhao, president of Xinhua News Agency.

“Together we are working on environmental issues, continue to work in very large-scale projects within energy sector, including nuclear energy,” Putin said.

According to him, the parties shall expand cooperation “not only in the direction of increasing the number of nuclear power plants in China, but also toward expansion of scientific and technological cooperation in this field”.

“The orders portfolio of our company “Rosatom” is quite large. Two blocks of the Tianwan nuclear power plant have already been operating for eight years and showed a good track record. We are working over other two blocks, and I think there is more to come. We should expand our cooperation not only in the direction of increasing the number of nuclear power plants in China, but also toward the expansion of scientific and technological cooperation in this field,” the head of the Russian state said.

“China strengthens its presence in our energy market, it is a major shareholder in one of our important projects “Yamal LNG”, has acquired 10% in one of our leading chemical holding “Sibur”. We welcome the Chinese investments, not only in terms of financial resources, but also in terms of our partnership strengthening,” V. Putin confirmed.

The Russian president also touched on the huge energy project “Power of Siberia”, referring to the Russian gas supply via the newly set Eastern route from Russia to China with a volume of 38 billion cubic meters of gas per year.
