Russia granted $2 million for Kyrgyzstan to contribute to Issyk-Kul tourism development

Almaty. April 1. KazTAG - Russia has allocated $2 million of grant funds for Kyrgyzstan within the framework of the UN program for the development of production industries in the Issyk-Kul province of Kyrgyzstan and strengthening of their ties with the tourist sector, Trend reports.

“The Russian government decided to allocate two million of grant funds for the implementation of UNIDO project (the United Nations Industrial Development Organization) “Development of production industries in the Issyk-Kul province of Kyrgyzstan and strengthening of their ties with the tourist sector,” the press-secretary of the Russian Embassy in the country Daria Pakhomova said.

According to her, the project, first of all, provides for the development of agricultural production and fishing industry in the Issyk-Kul province, as well as the organization of their cooperation with the local tourist sector. In particular, the point in case is about establishing a direct supply of the farmers’ products to the hotels and resorts located in the resort area. The project term is scheduled for three years.

The minister-counsellor of the Russian diplomatic mission in the Republic Alexey Mzareulov noted that the initiative to bring the ministry of agriculture and land reclamation of Kyrgyzstan aboard to the realization of this project belonged to the ministry of agriculture of Russia. He said, “the first stage of the project will begin in the nearest future”.

The highland Lake Issyk-Kul, which is called the “Kyrgyz sea”, is surrounded by the ridges of the Northern Tien-Shan. It is 182 km long (from west to east) and 58 km wide (from north to south). The lake is located at an altitude of more than 1.6 thousand meters above sea level. During the holiday season the resorts and sanatoriums of Issyk-Kul can host about a million tourists from different countries.
