Beijing. May 2. Silkroadnews - Seoul will not turn down the US troops after signing a peace treaty with the DPRK, the Kazakh Telegraph Agency (KazTAG) writes with reference to Kommersant.
“US Forces Korea (USFK) is a matter of the South Korea-US alliance. It has nothing to do with signing a peace treaty,” the agency quoted saying by South Korean President Moon Jae In as cited by his spokesman earlier this week.
According to the representative of the South Korean leader, the US troops play the role of a mediator between the neighboring superpowers surrounding the country.
Reuters reports, Seoul wants the troops to stay because US forces in South Korea play the role of a mediator in military confrontations between neighboring superpowers like China and Japan, another presidential official told reporters.
As noted, the US troops, currently there are about 28.5 thousand troops to be specific, have been stationed in South Korea since the Korean War in the early 1950s.
To remind, having met for the talks South Korean President Moon Jae In and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un agreed to sign a peace treaty between two states.
