Share of coal in China’s total energy consumption to be reduced to 60% in 2017

Almaty. December 28. Silkroadnews – Share of coal in China’s total energy consumption is to be reduced to 60% in 2017, the newspaper “People’s Daily” writes.

China will optimize the system of generation of electric power from coal and accelerate the pace of its transformation and modernization. By 2020 the installed capacity of the coal power station should not exceed 1.1 billion kWh. And in 2017 a share of coal in total energy consumption should be reduced to 60%, Director of the National Energy Administration Nur Bekri said.

According to the National Bureau of Statistics of China, for 2015 the amount of energy China consumed totaled 4.3 billion tonnes of standard coal equivalent, of which the share of coal consumption made 64%, which is 2% lower compared to 2014.

Nur Bekri also added, in 2017 the total primary energy resources consumption must not exceed 4.4 billion of standard coal equivalent. With this the share of non-fossil fuel and gas is expected to raise up to 14.3% and 6.8% respectively. The priority development directions are the replacement of traditional fuels with electricity in heating provided for population, as well as in transport and traffic sectors. The price determination mechanism under the influence of demand should be improved. Another important direction of work is the continuous improvement of oil products quality. Starting from January 1, 2017, quality of gasoline and diesel provided all over will meet the requirements of state standard of the stage V.
