Сhina’s forest cover ratio will increase to 23.04% by 2020

Almaty. May 26. Silkroadnews – By 2020 China’s forest coverage rate shall grow to 23.04% from 21.66% in 2015, Xinhua news agency reports.

According to the 13th five-year plan on the development of China’s forestry (2016-2020) for the period specified, the forest land of China will grow by 1.4 billion cubic meters; the wetlands area will stand at 800 million meters (more than 53 million hectares); the forest reserves’ share shall make more than 17% of the country’s territory; the land area subject to desertification will decrease by 10 million hectares; the forestry’s annual gross output will reach 8.7 trillion yuan.

The plan provides for the construction of ecological ring Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei and ecological zones in the north-east and south China and also on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau.

Also the country is going to pay a serious attention to the creation of sand binding forest plantings in the north and protective forest strips in coastal areas, protection of the environment of Loess Plateau, Sichuan and Yunnan provinces and the Yangtze River Basin.
