Almaty. November 23. Silkroadnews - Skype is no longer available on Apple Store in China, The Straits Times reported.
“Skype has apparently joined the lengthening list of internet communication tools on China’s blacklist, with Apple saying it was ordered to clear its download store of apps that violate national laws,” the report said.
It is noted that Skype is no longer available for download on the sites of the Apple Store or Android, and Chinese web users say it disappeared a few weeks ago.
“We have been notified by the Ministry of Public Security that a number of VoIP (voice over internet protocol) apps do not comply with local law, therefore these apps have been removed from the App Store in China,” statement by Apple says.
Skype Business, a separate application specifically designed for corporate use, is still available for download.
This year, China has tightened its control over the Internet, among the measures taken there are new regulations adapted saying the companies should store users’ data inside the country, as well as new restrictions on permissible content.
China has blocked Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and a number of news sites.
