Soccer fever caused a boom in TV sales in China

Beijing. June 13. Silkroadnews - TV sales in China are expected to increase 10% -20% during the 2018 FIFA World Cup from June 14 to July 15, when large-screen and high-definition TV sets will be particularly in demand by consumers, China Daily reported.
64 matches will be shown on TV during the championship.
“TV sales will soar 10 to 20 percent from June to July compared with same period last year. Soccer fans prefer to watch matches on TVs that can guarantee better and clearer images, rather than on smartphones. Sales of large-screen TVs, which are 55 inches and above, and OLED - organic light-emitting diode - TVs will witness rapid growth during this period,” the agency quoted saying by Liang Zhenpeng, an analyst in consumer electronics.
Chinese household appliances manufacturers, such as TCL Corp and Hisense Group, launched new television models and various promotion schemes aimed at the World Cup.
Brazilian soccer player Neymar has been appointed TCL’s global brand ambassador. The partnership will help TCL reach a wide audience of young sports fans around the world and enhance their global brand popularity.
This year the Chinese television industry is expected to recover from the recession of 2017, while sales will grow to 48.98 million units, which is 3.1% increase year-on-year due to increased demand and the impact of sporting events.
In the first quarter, world TV sales reached 50.6 million units, up 7.9% over the same period last year, while LCD TV sales grew 7.5% to 50.1 million units, and OLED shipments TV-s increased 115.8% to 470,000 units.
