South Korea looks for options to expand bilateral exchanges with DPRK under sanctions pressure
Beijing. Jul 23. Silkroadnews - The Republic of Korea does not intend to reduce the sanctions pressure on the DPRK, yet is looking for the ways to boost the bilateral exchanges, the Kazakh Telegraph Agency (KazTAG) reports with reference to TASS.
It is not the period when sanctions are weakening, Yonhap news agency citied the head of the South Korean Foreign Ministry’s Kang Kyung-hwa. She noted, getting exceptions necessary for inter-Korean projects is what she made the focus on.
The Minister also stressed the need for close contacts between South Korea and the U.S., as both countries are now involved in the negotiation process with the DPRK, with importance of information exchange on the issue growing.
Since the beginning of the year the tension around the situation on the Korean peninsula has been de-escalating amid the decision of the DPRK to stop testing nuclear weapons and ballistic missiles and move towards the international dialogue. The DPRK leader Kim Jong-un held a number of bilateral meetings with Chairman of the People’s Republic of China Xi Jinping, South Korean President Moon Jae-in, U.S. President Donald Trump, and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.
