Suppliers for the construction of nuclear power plants in Kazakhstan are not yet defined
Astana. January 26. Silkroadnews - RK Ministry of Energy has not yet decided the suppliers for the construction of nuclear power plants in Kazakhstan, but it is likely that they will become a Russian "Rosatom" and Westighouse (a subsidiary of Japan's Toshiba), reports KazTAG citing Energy Minister Vladimir Shkolnik.
According to him, the cost of each unit, depending on the configuration will be about $4.3 billion.
"Government Commission identified two areas - the East Kazakhstan region, the region of the former Semipalatinsk nuclear test site, and the site of the South Kazakhstan HPP, a settlement Ulken. These are two sites that are suitable in terms of energy balance and future prospects of development - to put nuclear power plants",- he recalled.
According to him, promising to build a second nuclear power plant will depend on the capacity of electricity exports from Kazakhstan to neighboring countries.
However, he did not rule out the possibility of postponing the construction of nuclear power plants in Kazakhstan depending on the economic situation.
