Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan discussed the cross-border cooperation project

Almaty. February 17. Silkroadnews - A meeting of the steering committee of the project “Cross-border cooperation for sustainable peace and development” was hold in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan in Dushanbe, the Tajik Telegraph Agency (TajikTA) reports on Wednesday.
“The project provides for the flexible approach in dealing with the complex issues that Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan run into within their frontier zones,” - the publication says.    
    The proposed project measures are reported to include the monitoring of the situation, dialogue between the cross-border communities, raising of awareness and exchange of views and cooperation between the law enforcement agencies and communities, as well as confidence-building measures.
The project is funded by the United Nations Peacebuilding Support Office / Peacebuilding Fund (PBF) and the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) and shall be implemented by the group of the UN agencies (UNDP, WFP, UNCF, UN Women and the UN Food and Agriculture Organization) in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan and other national partners.
    According to the agency, to implement the “Cross-border cooperation for sustainable peace and development” project the UN Office will allocate more than $2.5 million. Of them $1.5 million will be provided by the Peacebuilding Fund and about $1,012 million will be provided by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation.
