Tajikistan is losing professionals due to imbalance of labor market, experts believe

Almaty. February 15. Silkroadnews – Tajikistan’s labor market imbalance results in situation when the skilled professionals leave the country, the National Development Strategy (NDS) of Tajikistan for 2016-2030 states, TajikTA reports.

“Tajikistan faces imbalance of markets for educational services and labor, poor quality of education and skills of the workforce, this is especially true for women and rural population, high dependence on labor market status of one or two foreign countries, high external labor migration leads to the qualified professionals’ “washing out” from the country”, the report says.

The report authors state, the republic’s reality is a “three-component” labor market forming the official employment, informal employment and labor migration (largely informal and uncontrolled) almost in equal shares.

The need for simultaneous quantitative growth of sustainable productive employment and productivity, ensuring effective social protection will become the major purpose for Tajikistan in the long term development of employment.
According to the document, ensuring productive employment will contribute to growth in consumption, savings and investment sectors.

It is also noted that in 2030 the working age population size is planned to reach 6.8 million people (a part of the working-age population is expected to increase to 70% in 2030).

In particular, the share of employment in the service sector is expected to grow from 27.6% to 60%, in industry – from 3.3% up to 15-20%.

“This means that around 70% of growth in the labor force in the republic’s rural areas for 2016-2030 will be employed in the industrial sectors, social field and studying at professional institutions. The formal employment is expected to grow from 40% to 70% of the total employment in the country”, the document says.
