Beijing. February 23. Silkroadnews - Tajikistan offered Tashkent to resume another 5 checkpoints’ operation, the Tajik Telegraph Agency (TajikTA) on Friday.
Tajikistan’s authorities offered Tashkent to resume operation at another 5 checkpoints at the Tajik-Uzbek border: Ravot in Kanibadam, Uroteppa in Istaravshan, DEU-58, Zaamin in Zafarobod and Navbuned in Asht district, the head of the Tajikistan Customs Service in Sughd region Bakhrom Ismatulloev told journalists.
According to him, a special commission has been involved to resume the checkpoints’ operation at the border from the beginning of this year. The previously signed relevant intergovernmental protocol has served as a basis for the initiative.
To remind, a large wall, known as “Karimov’s wall”, was destroyed at Sarazm-Dzhartepa checkpoint, connecting the Samarkand region of Uzbekistan with the Sogd region of Tajikistan, on February 18. There were 16 checkpoints operating on the Tajik-Uzbek border, of which nine have international status.
