Tajikistan plans to build 34 medium-sized and large-sized hydropower plants

Almaty. May 3. Silkroadnews – Tajikistan plans to build 34 medium- and large-sized hydropower plants, Tajik Telegraph Agency (TajikTA) reports.

“In Tajikistan it is proposed to implement 34 projects for construction of new medium- and large-sized hydroelectric power stations,” the country’s investment map elaborated by the State Committee on Investments and State Property Management says.

In particular, the point in case is about construction of 12 new stations with capacity of 100 MW and above on the river Pyandj; six stations up to 210 MW on the Zarafshan River; five – on the river Obihingo; four – on Surkhob; on the rivers Matcha and Vakhsh – three stations per each, and one station – on the Amu-Darya.

The largest projects are: construction of Rushan HPP on the Pyandj river (3 thousand MW installed capacity); “Granite Gate” HPP on the Pyandj river (2.1 thousand MW); Dzhumarskaya HPP on the Pyandj river (2 thousand MW); Shirgovatskaya HPP on the Pyandj river (1.9 thousand MW); Hostavskaya HPS on the Pyandj river (1.2 thousand MW).

Currently there are 11 medium- and large-sized hydropower plants operating in the republic, among them the largest is the Nurek hydropower plant of 2.7 thousand MW.
