Tajikistan plans to harvest more than 360 thousand tonnes of cotton before the end of the year

Almaty. September 8. Silkroadnews – Tajikistan plans to harvest more than 360 thousand tonnes of cotton before the end of the year, TajikTA reported.

According to the country's Ministry of Agriculture, as of the end of last week the volume of the cotton gathered in the republic stood at 28.5 thousand tonnes, that is 7.7% of the plan, yet 16.5 thousand tonnes more compared with the same period of last year.

The officials of the ministry note, this year more than 162.5 thousand hectares were planted with cotton, including more than 155.5 thousand hectares in the Khatlon region, about 44.2 hectares in Sogd and more than 2.8 thousand hectares in the districts of republican subordination.

To remind, las year cotton was sown on about 160 thousand hectares’ area with the plan to harvest about 390 thousand tonnes. However, the harvest made around 270 thousand tonnes, which was 99 thousand tonnes less compared to 2014.
