Tajikistan’s foreign trade turnover decreased by 9.2% in 2016

Almaty. January 24. Silkroadnews – Tajikistan’s foreign trade turnover decreased by 9.2% in 2016, Tajik Telegraph Agency (TajikTA) reported on Tuesday.

“In 2016 foreign trade turnover of Tajikistan amounted to $3.929 billion, which is 9.2% lower compared to 2015 ($4.3 billion)”, the statement says with reference to the Statistical Agency under President of the Republic of Tajikistan.

Behind such a reduction in turnover in 2016 there is a decrease in imports of goods. Last year the imported goods amount reached $3 billion, which is 11.8% or $404.7 million lower compared to the volume of 2015.

At the same time exports of goods in 2016 increased by 0.9% or $8.1 million to 2015.  

As a whole, during the reporting year the amount of the Tajik products exported made $898.7 million. The trade balance resulted turned to be negative standing at $2.132 billion.

The country’s major trade partners last year were Russia and China. The total amount of the Tajik-Russian trade exceeded $1 billion and the Tajik-Chinese trade reached $885 million.
