As senior economist of the ADB Department for Central and West Asia Samchan Shrest explains, the major reasons behinds the country’s dairy industry underdeveloped are limited investment and access to credit, lack of business knowledge and skills, weak links to markets.

It is expected that the proposed project will contribute to raise the production of milk and milk products, diversify the dairy products and improve access to the markets. It also aims to improve pasture management and create more employment opportunities in urban and rural areas.

The proposed project also assumes support for the public-private partnership. It is expected that the project will be submitted for approval by the ADB Board of Directors at the end of 2017.
