Tajikistan to suspend supply of electricity to Afghanistan until October

Almaty. August 15. Silkroadnews – By early October Tajikistan suspends supply of electricity to Afghanistan, TajikTA reported on Tuesday.

“Export of large volumes of Tajik electricity to Afghanistan will continue until the beginning of October of this year”, a source in the OSHC “Barki Tojik” confirmed.

According to information available, high volume of flowing water on the Vakhsh River allows raising electric energy generation output, thus, with the domestic needs total satisfaction the electricity could also be exported to the neighboring countries.

The daily volume of electricity exports to Afghanistan has not been specified, yet, the source noted that for six months of this year 581.1 mln of electricity in the amount of $22.2 million were exported to the neighboring country.
