Taliban seized a checkpoint in province of Takhar, 16 border policemen killed
Beijing. June 29. Silkroadnews - On Thursday night in the northern province of Takhar, Taliban militants seized a border checkpoint, the Afghan Telegraph Agency (AfTAG) reports.
The incident has taken place in Chahab district, near the border with Tajikistan. At the time of the attack, 24 policemen were on duty at the checkpoint, 16 of them were killed.
Six security guards were reported missing, later two of them were found. The fate of the remaining four policemen is still unknown.
Representatives of the extremist movement “Taliban” confirmed their involvement in the attack, saying their militants have allegedly seized 4 roadblocks.
To remind, due to the regime of unilateral ceasefire, security officials do not conduct offensive operations at present and only fight to repel the attacks, however since June 30 the clearing operations are planned to be restarted.
