Temperature rose to +83C in China’s Turpan
Beijing. June 29. Silkroadnews - More than 2500 tourists gathered in Turpan, the northwest of China, to experience the extreme heat - this week the temperature there rose to +83C, China Daily reports.
This is the highest temperature of the surface of the earth, registered this year.
According to Wang Hong, deputy general manager of the Turpan Flame Mountain Scenic Area, since the beginning of the month, this is the fourth time when the temperature has risen above +80C.
Last year, the highest recorded temperature +89C was registered on July 11.
Wang said, the thermometer can measure the surface temperature up to +100C with an error within 0.5 degrees.
He also noted, the best time to enjoy the heat is between 15:00 and 16:00, when the surface temperature reaches its peak. The new temperature record is expected in July.
A huge thermometer, with a height of 12 meters and a width of 65 cm, measures the temperature in Turpan. It is located in the center of a picturesque area, one of the favorite places of tourists. Besides photography, popular entertainment among the tourists here is to bake eggs using the sand. On Monday alone, 240 eggs were sold here.
Turpan in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region is known as the “heat pole” of China.
