Terrorists will be deprived of citizenship in Kyrgyzstan

Almaty. August 4. Silkroadnews – Kyrgyzstan’s President Almazbek Atambayev has signed a law depriving persons convicted of terrorism and extremism of Kyrgyzstan’s citizenship, KyrTAG reports.

The purpose of the law is to strengthen responsibility for crimes in international terrorism and extremism.

The act amends a number of country’s codes aimed to tighten punishments and conditions of enduring the punishment in jail and provide for loss of citizenship for persons convicted of terrorist and extremist activities.

The law comes into effect after 10 days from the date of publication.

Meanwhile, the current edition of the Constitution has an article stating none of citizens of Kyrgyzstan can be deprived of citizenship. The amendments to this article are introduced with the proposed changes to the Constitution, which have not been adopted yet.
