The CIS joint air defense system requires further improvement, Minister of Defense of Kazakhstan believes
Almaty. August 25. Silkroadnews – The 45th meeting of the Air Defense Coordination Committee under the Council of Defense Ministers of the CIS member states was held in Astana, press service of the Kazakhstani Ministry of Defense reported.
«The combined air defense system needs to be further improved to provide for the due respond to the threats coming from the air-space», press service quoted the Minister of Defense of Kazakhstan Imangali Tasmagambetov saying.
As the minister explained, «under the present circumstances the overall security infrastructure and groups of forces effectiveness can be achieved only with their reliable protection against the air and space attack.
Kazakhstan's Defense Minister also reminded that the CIS aerospace defense concept was approved on June 15.
«The Coordination Committee has been allotted a task to translate this document into action. It is important to continue improving the legal framework of cooperation, organizational structure and management system», added the head of Defense Ministry of Kazakhstan.
According to the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Kazakhstan, a revised agreement on establishment of the CIS member states' joint air defense system was signed in Almaty on February 10, 1995. The system was designed to ensure the defense of the member states' borders in the airspace; jointly control the order of the member states' airspace use; notify the member states on the aerospace environment and warn of missile and air attack; conduct the actions of the member states' air defense forces to provide an appropriate response to aerospace attack.
