The construction of the railway tunnel linking China and Central Asia will be completed in the first half of 2016

Almaty. January 11. Silkroadnews - Construction of “the longest railway tunnel in Central Asia” – through the Kamchik pass in Uzbekistan – shall be completed in the first half of this year, the Chinese news media reports.
“The project is the bottleneck of the Silk Road, thus, completion of its construction will contribute to the development of cooperation between China and Uzbekistan being also very significant for the cooperation of all the countries of Central Asia”, the publication informs.
According to the reports, the railway tunnel through the Kamchik pass, with a total length of 19.2 km, will be the 13th in the world. It is also called “the first tunnel of Central Asia”.
Completion of the railway construction shall not not only improve the transport position in the territory of Uzbekistan, but also contribute to the economic development of all the countries located in “one zone, on one way”.
In July 2013 CTG corporation has signed with the Uzbek construction company a general contract for the design and construction works of the project for a total of $455 million.
The “Kamchik” pass lies on the crest of the Qurama Mountains. The height of the pass is over 1.2 thousand meters above sea level. The pass provides the only traffic artery of the republic connecting the Fergana valley with the rest of Uzbekistan through the highway connecting Tashkent region and the Pap district of Namangan region.
