Almaty. December 23. Silkroadnews - Heads of States of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) declared their readiness to support the establishment of Afghanistan. This was stated in a joint statement of the heads of the CSTO member states.
The heads of the CSTO member states welcome the completion of the presidential election process and the steps taken to achieve national unity in Afghanistan and expressed readiness to provide all possible assistance to the establishment of the IRA as an independent, peaceful, neutral country, free from terrorism and drug-related crime.
However, the leaders of the CSTO countries remain "concerned about the use of Afghan territory by terrorist and extremist groups to destabilize the situation in the border zone of CSTO responsibility".  In addition, they are concerned about the growing area of drug crops and drug production in Afghanistan "that poses a serious threat to regional and international security".
The heads of the CSTO member states noted the need for peaceful resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, stressing the importance of an early completion of the basic principles of settlement of the conflict through the mediation of the OSCE Minsk Group on the basis of principles and norms of international law, the UN Charter, the Helsinki Final Act, in particular regarding use of force or threat of force, territorial integrity, equality and the right of people.
The Presidents also support the speedy restoration of peace in Ukraine.
The leaders of the CSTO countries believe that it is "extremely important" to prevent further deterioration of the situation, to exercise restraint, to use exclusively political and diplomatic methods of conflict resolution to enforce the Minsk Agreement in order to achieve national harmony and to overcome the crisis in this country.
