Almaty. May 5. Silkroadnews – Representatives of the guarantor states of the Syrian conflict settlement signed a memorandum to establish de-escalation zones in the country, KazTAG reports.

“Over the past two days participants in the Astana talks have reviewed the processes of the ceasefire and cessation of hostilities. As a result, the guarantor states agreed to sign a memorandum on the establishment of de-escalation zones in the Syrian Arab Republic”, Kazakhstan’s Foreign Minister Kairat Abdrakhmanov said on Thursday.
According to explanations on results of the first day of the talks by Russia’s special presidential envoy for Syria Aleksandr Lavrentiev, de-escalation zones are being established to separate the moderate Syrian opposition from radical terrorist groups (ISIS (DAISH) and Jabhat al-Nusra).

“It is planned to establish four zones, these are the territories where the most high-intensity battlefields take place now between the Syrian government troops, Jabhat al-Nusra and the moderate opposition. For a year and a half there was not much progress achieved in separating the moderate opposition from terrorist groups in Syria, this work was carried out by the US representatives from Obama administration. We propose to establish such zones where moderate opposition forces can directly fight against the groups of terrorist organizations with the support of the guarantor states”, A. Lavrentiev noted.

The signing ceremony of the Memorandum on establishment of de-escalation zones in Syria was held following the results of the fourth round of negotiations on the Syrian issue at the Rixos Hotel in Astana.
