The Islamic Development Bank to allocate $13.3 million to develop irrigation in Kyrgyzstan

Almaty. December 28. Silkroadnews – The Islamic Development Bank (IDB) will provide a loan of $13.3 million to contribute to development of Kyrgyzstan’s irrigation system, KyrTAG says.

“The IDB will provide the Kyrgyz government with $13.3 million loan to contribute to development of Sarymsak irrigation systems located in Kara-Buura district of Osh region”, the explanatory note to the draft law “On ratification of the loan agreement between the Kyrgyz Republic and the Islamic Development Bank on financing of the project of Sarymsak irrigation system development in the Kyrgyz Republic”.

The project cost is approximately $16.4 million, of which IDB loan amount to $13.3 million, with remaining $3.1 million to be co-financed by the Kyrgyz government.

Construction and assembly works at the water facilities will allow to put into operation around 2000 ha of new irrigated lands and increase water supply on an area of 1.6 thousand ha in Kara-Buura area.
