The Japanese government to allocate $12 million for irrigation in Afghanistan
Almaty. April 5. Silkroadnews – The government of Japan has committed to provide the Afghan government with more than $12 million to improve irrigation systems and provide financial support, the Afghan Telegraph Agency (AfTAG) reports.
According to the statement by the Japanese embassy, a $6.1-million worth irrigation rehabilitation and development project (IRDP) and $6-million “Steady flow window” are being financed in Kabul.
IRDP is expected to improve the country’s irrigation systems and water resources management, improve citizens’ access to services.
This contribution will facilitate further improving agricultural productivity in the regions. “Steady flow window” should help to facilitate the government services provisions to Afghan citizens.
The funds are received through the Afghanistan Reconstruction Trust Fund (ARFT), funded by the World Bank.
It is worth noting that Japan is making a significant contribution to the process of Afghanistan’s reconstruction since 2001. The total amount of assistance for this time is $6.4 billion.
