The memo on widening of women rights and possibillities was signed in Afghanistan
Almaty. January 6. Silkroadnews - The Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, the Republic of India and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) signed a trilateral memorandum of understanding on common goals of development, including women’s economic empowerment on 2 January 2016, in the ministry of foreign affairs.
This memorandum of understanding signed by Director General for Economic Cooperation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Mr. Wahidullah Waissi, USAID Deputy Mission Director Ms. Tamra Halmrast-Sanchez in Kabul and Deputy Chief of Mission of Indian Embassy, Mr. Viraj Singh.
All three sides expressed their common determination to support the second phase of the program in order to increase economic empowerment of more than three thousand underprivileged women in Afghanistan, in accordance with the following principles:
The United States of America through its international development office intends to provide financial aids worth one and a half million dollars for the self-employed Women's Association of India (SEWA) so that the Afghan women acquire professional and leadership training in India.
The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) assistance in this regard has amounted to US $ 1.5 million and this amount is subject to the availability of funds and the common agreement between the USAID and mentioned association in India.
The government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan and the Republic of India will provide necessary facilities, including the issuance of visas and other issues needed to implement the program in accordance with the accepted principles.
The three-side expect to share their views on the progress of the program in order to make sure the successful completion of the planned activities.
It is worth mentioning that Self-Employed Women’s Association of India (SEWA) is a trade Association established in 1972 in India, in order to help poor and self-employed women and its headquarter is located in the city of Ahmadabad, India.
This association also operates in all cities of the country. The members of this association are women acquire their daily income through self-employment and small businesses.
