The Pentagon has donated to Kabul $858 million worth of military bases in Afghanistan
Almaty. March 29. Silkroadnews - The Pentagon has donated to Kabul $858 million worth of military bases located in Afghanistan, TASS reports.
“The real property transfer to the national forces of defence and security of Afghanistan became part of the funds that the United States provide the Afghan government with within the framework of the country’s reconstruction,” stated the report of the office of the special inspector general of the Ministry of Defence, which is an independent supervisory authority department.
The document says that in Afghanistan the Pentagon still has a property valued at $48.5 million, yet this property is “either destroyed or abandoned”. According to the report, the US “is forbidden to sell excess real estate” to Kabul which became the reason for donation.
TASS reports over the course of the war in the country the United States commanded 715 bases in Afghanistan. From 2010 to February 2015 391 bases turned over to the Afghan authorities, 219 bases got closed and six more turned over to other US agencies. Thus, the Afghan army has received 225 bases, the police - 118 and other government agencies - 48. 115 bases turned over to the Afghan Armed Forces have tactical purpose - their territory can accommodate military forces with large number of personnel.
