The presidents of Turkmenistan and Afghanistan have agreed to accelerate the construction of the TAPI gas pipeline

Almaty. January 22. Silkroadnews - President of Turkmenistan and Afghanistan Ashraf Ghani agreed to accelerate the construction of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline, repported the Afghan News Agency (AfTAG).
It is noted that the agreement reached during the visit of A.Ghani to Turkmenistan. During the talks was presented the pipeline project. Tender for selection of the head of the consortium will be announced in early February in Islamabad. After that is scheduled to begin construction of the pipeline.
According to the president of Afghanistan, the implementation of this project, as well as the construction of the railway Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Tajikistan and increasing supplies of Turkmen electricity "will allow to eradicate poverty in Afghanistan, to create a strong economic relationship with the countries of Central Asia".
As noted, through gas pipelines 1.8 thousand km is planned to export annually up to 33 billion cubic meters of Turkmen natural gas. Highway stretching from the Turkmen field Galkinish to Fazilka on the border between India and Pakistan. The cost of the project exceeds $7.6 billion.
