The Shanghai government increases city’s minimum wage to $335

Almaty. March 31. Silkroadnews – The government of Shanghai has decided to increase the city’s minimum wage from 2190 ($317) to 2300 yuan ($335) as of April 1, 2017, the Shanghai Jibao newspaper reports with reference to the city’s department of labor and social security.
Besides, according to the recent decree by the local government decree, as of April 1, 2017, monthly unemployment insurance payments for the first 12 months will be increased from 1520 ($220) to 1660 yuan ($240). In the next 12 months, the unemployed people will be able to receive up to 80% of this amount.
In early January, the Shanghai government also announced an increase in government subsidies to local companies to hire people who have not been successful to find a job for a long time. Previously, the authorities paid the employer around 16 thousand yuan ($2322) per one such hired employee per year. According to the recent decree, subsidies are raised to 50% of the minimum wage and also include a part of the social payments to be paid by the employer. Thus, the amount of the subsidy is increased to 19800 yuan ($2873).
In addition, the authorities have also expanded the list of those entitled to benefits when entering employment. Previously, people with disabilities, members of families consisting entirely of the unemployed, former prisoners and former drug addicts could count on the state assistance. Now this list includes three more categories of citizens: families consisting of several disabled people; women older than 40 years and men younger than 45 whose land was requisitioned; people younger than 35, who could not find a job during a year, though was registered with the local labor exchange.
