Almaty. March 6. Silkroadnews - Afghanistan will be completely cleared of mines by 2023, reported the Afghan News Agency (AfTAG).
According to demining organizations, 80% of the territory of Afghanistan is already cleared. Thus, more than 2.1 million mines were detected and neutralized since 1989.
Recall mining in Afghanistan began during the Soviet occupation in 1979-1989 years. Even more mining was developed in the mid-1990s, during the struggle between factions of the Mujahideen. In addition, the Taliban militants used mines against the Northern Alliance, 1996-2001.
