Almaty. May 17. Silkroadnews – Trilateral agreement on use of the Iranian trade port of Chabahar to be signed in May or June this year, the Afghan news agency (AfTAG) informs.

“Now, after years of negotiations, we can declare with confidence the agreement will be signed. This project is very important not only for the development and prosperity of Afghanistan, but also for the economy of the whole region,” Shaida Mohammad Abdali, the ambassador of Afghanistan to India, said.

He also expressed confidence the Afghan security forces are ready to protect the 218-kilometer stretch of Farah-Nimroz highway, which is a part of the trade route.

To remind, the parties have been trying to agree on the joint use of the commercial port since 2003, yet the project realization was delayed due to the sanctions imposed on Iran.

For information, Afghanistan is actively searching for the alternative ways to export agricultural products to the Asian and European markets, as for several years the joint border with Pakistan has been generating different obstacles. The border guards of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan regularly hold the Afghan entrepreneurs in suspense for a few days, thus, generating for them heavy losses.
