The U.S. plans to allocate to Afghanistan’s army $15 billion up to 2020

Almaty. June 20. Silkroadnews – The U.S. along with its allies among NATO countries plan to allocate $15 billion within next 4 years to support the army and police of Afghanistan, Russian media reported.

“The U.S. and its allies will try their efforts to raise $15 billion to finance the Afghan security forces up to the end of 2020. The U.S. will allocate about $10.5 billion of the total amount,” The Washington Post wrote.

As specified, the decision on this issue is expected to be made at the July NATO summit in Warsaw.

Earlier, during their meeting in Brussels the NATO defense ministers have agreed to continue to assist Afghanistan’s armed forces till the end of this decade. The alliance countries “have confirmed they shall continue to contribute to the funding of the Afghan security forces till 2020”, the head of the Pentagon Ashton Carter said after the meeting.

At present the Afghan army and security forces number more than 300 thousand militaries. There are also 12 thousand soldiers of NATO countries staying at present in Afghanistan, among them 10 thousand militaries are from the U.S.
