Almaty. October 29. Silkroadnews - The UN has called for intensified efforts to prevent and mitigate the effects of natural disasters in Asia and the Pacific region, said the news center of organization.
According to the report, storms, floods, earthquakes and other natural disasters in the region have led to huge economic losses. Over the last decade they have achieved more than half a trillion dollars.
Experts of ESCAP stressed that the countries of Asia and the Pacific, are the most vulnerable to natural disasters and called for strengthened regional cooperation in disaster mitigation and adaptation to the new realities related to climate change. They stressed that without adaptation to climate change and mitigating the effects of disasters, the region can not cope with the objectives of sustainable development.
