The US will begin to supply beef to China

Almaty. May 12. Silkroadnews – The US and China reached an agreement on the import of American beef to China, TASS reports.

“Soon the US-China relations will reach a new level. China will allow importing American beef in accordance with international food security standards, animal health standards and the agreement on cooperation in the field of agriculture dated 1999”, the U.S. Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross said.

The head of the Commerce Department has specified, the supplies should begin in the very near future, “not later than July 16, 2017”.

“For the first time, we have a specific decision and a specific date. A very large market opens for American beef”, he said.

In addition, the minister continued, Washington and Beijing plan to settle unresolved issues relating to “the import of Chinese cooked poultry to the United States”. After the negotiations the US authorities also intend to prepare a relevant decision by July 16 and admit this product to the country.

By the end of this May the Chinese authorities in charge of biosafety issues will review eight applications submitted by US manufacturers for biotechnology products supply that have not been considered so far. After that Beijing will decide what goods to be allowed to be imported into the country.

The agreements have been reached during the consultations held between W. Ross, US Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin and Vice Premier of China Wang Yang following the meeting between US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping in Florida in early April.
