Almaty. July 28. Silkroadnews – The total area of forests restored on arable land in China should increase up to 53.3 million hectares, “People’s Daily” reported.
The Chinese government has increased compensation for growing seedlings and expanded afforestation area for arable lands. This year China has set the task to restore forest vegetation and grass cover on 820 thousand hectares of arable land. Among them, 740 thousand hectares of land are designated for forest management. Thus, since 2014, the total area of restored forests on arable land in China should increase up to 53.3 million hectares, report said.
With this it is noted that in 2014, to protect the soil from water erosion and sandstorms, as well as to increase the stock of forest resources and respond to climate change globally, China introduced the new plan to restore forests and grass cover.
In May 2017 the State Council of China ratified the project to further expand the scale of restoration of forest and grass cover, put forward by the State Forestry Administration of the PRC. Under this project, 2.46 million hectares of arable land throughout 18 provinces and regions of China will be commissioned for planting. Thus, the scale of forest restoration will double.
