Trans-Anatolian gas pipeline launched in Turkey

Beijing. 13 June. Silkroadnews - The opening ceremony for the Trans-Anatolian gas pipeline (TANAP), a part of the Southern Gas Corridor project to deliver transportation of Azerbaijani gas to Europe, was held on Tuesday in the Turkish city of Eskisehir, TASS reports.
The opening ceremony was attended by President of Turkey Tayyip Erdogan and President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, as well as by two state’ top officials of the state and government agencies. Speaking about the project the Turkish leader described TANAP as a part of the new “energy Silk Road”, the report said.
TANAP is an integral part of the Southern Gas Corridor (SGC), aimed to deliver Azerbaijani gas to Europe. The pipeline with the length of 1,85 thousand km is laid from the Georgian-Turkish border to the border of Turkey with Greece. The volume of gas supplies to Turkey is expected to total 2 billion cubic meters for the first year, 4 billion cubic meters - for the second year and 6 billion cubic meters - for the third one.
The pipeline capacity is 16 billion cubic meters, of which 6 billion cubic meters will remain Turkey, and 10 billion cubic meters to be transported to the south of Europe via the Trans-Adriatic Pipeline (TAP), also part of the SGC system. Gas supplies to Europe are scheduled for 2020.
The total cost of the SGC project, which is an integrated gas pipeline system, including the South Caucasus Pipeline, TANAP and TAP, is $42 billion.
