Kabul. May 12. Silkroadnews –Afghanistan’s national energy company “Dabs” has announced it intends to import 300 megawatts of energy from Turkmenistan. The agreement on this has already been signed between two countries, as wadsam.com informs.
“The agreement signed with Turkmenistan will be implemented by 2017. USD 480 mln for its implementation comes from the World Bank, the rest USD 400 mln comes from DABS own budget”, as DABS representative Wahidullah Tawhidi says.
Approximately 90% of Afghanistan’s energy is currently been exported from Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and Iran.
Afghanistan economists reckon that Afghanistan has capacity to not only satisfy its own energy demands, but also export energy resources. However, that would require significant investment.
“We can produce over 7000 megawatts of hydro-energy using Afghan rivers. The government just hasn’t been working on our resources in the last decade”, Taj Muhhammad Akbar, the Professor of economics at Kabul University reckons.
