Almaty. August 24. Silkroadnews – Typhoon “Hato” left 12 people killed and around 300 injured in China, Russian information portal “Vesti” reported.
Typhoon “Hato” struck the South China region and left 12 people killed and more than 270 injured. The largest number of victims was registered in Macau, with 8 people dead and 153 hospitalized, the report said.
The typhoon caused serious damage to the transport system throughout the south of the country.
Traffic on several high-speed rail lines was stopped, the airport of Zhuhai canceled 247 domestic and international flights, Shenzhen airport – 298 flights. the Hong Kong airport was affected the most: 365 flights were canceled.
Reportedly, heavy rains and gusts of wind led to collapse of buildings, fall of trees, breaking of communication and power lines. Strong waves damaged the bridges and structures of seaports in Hong Kong and Shenzhen.
According to publication, along with the typhoon move deeper into the country and subsiding, the storm alerts were canceled. According to preliminary estimates, in Hong Kong direct material damage from the typhoon “Hato” amounted to more than one billion US dollars.
